The MAPS 500 (Miniature Antenna Positioning System) Phazor Positioner is an RTCA/160D (Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics) qualified airborne gimbal with open and closed tracking capability. The compact elevation over azimuth gimbal design provides maximum range of motion in a minimum swept volume to track satellites or other targets while presenting minimal drag to the aircraft. MAPS 500 has embedded Antenna Control Unit (ACU) Electronics that accept ARINC navigation data, remote computer commands and RF inputs. It automatically performs acquisition, tracking, and RF control.
The MAPS 500 Phazor Positioner Airborne Gimbal can be tailored for specific RF packages. The standard configuration includes a two channel rotary joint for Ku Band operation.
DRS's embedded ACU electronics incorporates leading edge servo compensation for maximum pointing and tracking accuracy with minimal structural weight.
